Swing King Arrie Vandermerwe continues to bend balls around corners as he claimed 4/63 from 19 overs straight on the weekend .
WINDSOR 6/193
Defeated by
THATCHAM TOWN 9/195
Vandermerwe 4/63
Windsor where forced to endure the cruelest of losses as they saw Thatchams Towns last wicket pair plounder 32 runs in 12 balls to secure their first win of the season on the weekend.
Upon winning the toss, Windsor batted first and steadily got the total to 6/193 after 52. Vandenberg (28), Vandermerwe (25) and Nichols (33) all got starts but it was Weston (34*) and Harris (27*) that proved that wickets in hand can set up successful late flurries at the death.
This late flurry paled in significance to the onslaught at the death dealt to Windsor at the hands of Thatchams Bird and Williams.
Even with a bowler down in Borland turning up to the game lame, Windsor had done everything right with Harris (2/51), and the sublime Vandermerwe (4/63) off 19 overs straight securing early wickets and bulding pressure. But 2 crucial dropped chances came back to haunt Windsor, after the 2nd drinks break.
Thatcham had seemingly shut up shop with the 45th over being a maiden, until Bird and Williams struck 32 in 12 balls, and needing 4 to win the game off the last ball, went 2 better and smashed the shot of the day, a 6 over long on, that could still be travelling, to set up scenes of joy for the victors and heartbreaking defeat for Windsor! It was a magnificent game of cricket where cricket was certainly the winner on the day!!
Windsor still confident even due to the loss, pick up 13 points and look forward to taking on the expeirenced and strong Wokingham at Home next weekend.
