The sun finally shone for Windsor CC’s 3rd 11 this weekend and after two cancelled games the two
teams took to the field in glorious sunshine. Entertaining a high flying Purley-on-Thames Haynes won
the toss and decided to have a bowl. With a depressed bowling line-up following Lewis’ departure to
oriental climates Haynes turned to 15 year old Ivan Smith to open the bowling with the ever reliant
(however this week hungover) bowling machine that is Dean Bean. The hangover showed no signs of
deterring the beanman as he embraced on a 14 over spell for 2 wickets with very few runs. Due to
Smith’s young age he was only permitted to bowl a 5 over spell and although fruitless the opening
5 overs from Smith were very positive and showed that the 3s have a very decent young bowler in
their ranks. Due to the extremely high quantity and quality of overseas at Windsor this year the 3 rd
team were finally blessed with a talented overseas player following mixed previous ventures with
Kurth, Thompson and Du Preis.
10 overs in, and the enforced change of bowling saw Jay Ganapathy come on from the Football pitch
end. Ganapathy bowled a spell of bowling of the highest nature with Messers Noble and Huggins
confirming it was possibly the best spell ever seen on C2 for Windsor CC with figures of 11 overs 6
for 19 it will take something very special to steal the champagne moment off him for this season. A
sight that I (and a large group of others) never thought see happen on C2 was the 5 slips 2 gullys and
1 leg slip Ganaphy’s bowling had warranted, needless to say no catches were taken, but a massive
hats off to Jay who showed to the other Windsor captains he is still here. Once Bean’s whiskey and
cokes saw the end of his spell Haynes turned to part time slow-medium bowler Gould who also
chipped in with a very tidy 4 overs, 3 maidens 2 for 6.
Purley were all out for 62 and Windsor knocked them off in true Windsor opening batting style…63
for 1 of 35 overs, Rob Noble holding his bat through the innings to remain undefeated.
A very decent Purley team were blown away by a truly unstoppable Windsor bowling line up and
although the pick was Ganapathy all bowlers, Bean, Smith and Gould had a part to play in what was
without a doubt the best bowling performance I have seen from any Windsor CC side.
