Windsor Vs Harefield 16/07/05
Harefield 275 for 1 (McLeod 122*, Whatham 123, 55 Overs)
Windsor 240 for 6 (Gould 84*, 55 Overs)

Last Saturday, Windsor travelled to inform Harefield. Having taken some confidence from their draw last week against Wokingham, Windsor won the toss and decided to put Harefield into bat on what looked like a very good track. It proved to be very good, and with Windsor’s bowlers struggling, Harefield’s openers took control, both making excellent centuries in quick time. Harefield kept batting and set 275 to win of 55 overs, skipper Thompson thought this was poor decision by Harefield, “they should have declared on 240, they obviously they haven’t read our recent scores”
Windsor started off the chase well, but due to accurate bowling only just kept up with the run rate (attacking fields were also set which helped the run rate). Windsor kept losing wickets the chase down of the 275 looked a long way off. Mike Gould batted very well with Charters, when he fell Thompson came to the crease immediately attacking the spin bowling, taking 14 runs from 7 balls. Various comments had come from the Harefield team about Windsor not going for the runs but they took the spinner off after the runs began to flow and reverted to a negative all seam attack. Windsor closed on 240 for 6 after 55 overs with both Gould (82) and Thompson on (27) undefeated at the end.
Harefield’s skipper was particularly distressed at Windsor for not going for the 275. Skipper Thompson responded, “Whilst I understand where he is coming from, he must understand that 275 was massive and they had given us 80 runs by setting attacking fields. In the last 10 overs, as soon as we attacked the spinners, he took him off and bowled a negative line with seamers. Their over seas bowler bowled 4 deliveries down the leg side in one over, how can we score off them? Furthermore, why wouldn’t they declare on 240 with 60 overs to bowl us out, they are 2nd top and we are bottom we have had a poor season with the bat, did they really think we would get 275? Most of the team and the club took a lot from the draw, we have been beaten very heavily at times this year, it’s very nice not to lose and get some players back into form”
“In my personal opinion I would like to a change in the league format closer to the international format, of 50 overs, fielding restrictions and limits on bowlers, it would have meant yesterdays game would have had fairer result, I still believe we would be at the lower end of the table but it would improve the cricket and standard”
