Narrow loss for Windsor 1’s while new boys impress for the 2’s.
Egham : 226 beat Windsor 225-3 by 1 run.
Windsor 1’s narrowly went down by 1 run at Egham in the 2018 curtain raiser. Batting first Egham made 226, with Jamie Hall, Ollie Jordan and Kai Ziemkendorf picking up 2 wickets each. In reply Windsor seemed well set with a solid opening stand between Adam Weston and Kris Baumgartner only ended when Weston retired hurt on 22. Baumgartner followed for 39, but this allowed Mark Lines (60*) and Mohit Kulkarni (54)to both make fine half centuries. Windsor however left it a little too late, finally coming up short by just a single to lose by 1 run.
Windsor 2’s 172-8 beat Egham 129 by 43 runs.
Things were a little more straightforward at Home Park, where Windsor 2’s fielding 5 debutants beat Egham 2’s by 43 runs. Windsor however were in trouble early on, slipping to 35-3, before debutant Aussie Dave Carlton and opener Rob Noble steadied things with a 40 run partnership. Noble fell for 27, but this saw another debutant Nerps Singh and Carlton take a liking to the Egham attack. Carlton hit several fine lofted drives before falling for 44, and with Singh batting on for a hard hitting 65 not out, Windsor felt they had something to bowl at, finishing on 172-8.
After tea, Egham’s openers played some fine shots, reaching 61 without loss before seasoned campaigner Ben Lewis ripped through the visitors batting claiming 4-31. Another newcomer, Luke Matthews also impressed with 2-31, and with Joe Clifford, Bash Nasim and skipper Chris Dixon all claiming a wicket apiece, Windsor had had a decent opening day, winning by what was in the end a comfortable margin.
