TRIBUTE to Wes Nichols
Our Windsor Cricket Club is still in shock, mourning the loss of our natural captain and talented all-rounder Wes Nichols that sadly lost his fight last week against cancer. Wes was the best Windsor cricketer of this generation. If you knew Windsor CC, you knew Wes because he always led from the front. He enriched our Club with his unique humour, his cricketing talents, his motivating leadership and his positive attitude to life and to cricket.
He joined us in 2006 for a season as an overseas player from Australia, – and stayed for the rest of his life. He married Michelle, worked for Build-A-Bear and broke so many of our club records. During his 9 years with our Club, he was 1st Team Captain in 2008, 2009, 2010 and again in 2014. He led us to Division 2A winners in 2009.
As a genuine all-rounder he took 409 wickets for 15.97, with a personal best 7-29 and scored 5,042 runs at 31.91, his highest being 131. For his achievements in 2009 when he took 51 league wickets for 11.86 he received the overall Thames Valley League Level 2 Bowling Award.
Wes loved his cricket at the Home Park and was always at the centre of our activities on and off the field. We each have great memories of him and his achievements. We are all proud to have known and to have played with him. He was only 36 action-packed years old, and far too young to die.
He is sorely missed by us all and especially by his young wife Michelle and all his family who are in our thoughts and our prayers.
