Chesham ( 334-9) beat Windsor ( 196 all out) by 138 runs
Cricket got underway for the 2017 season in glorious spring sunshine, as Windsor went down to a strong Chesham outfit. Batting first Chesham always looked likely to post a large first innings total, and despite strenuous efforts in the field, this proved to be the case. Openers A.Rance and Eteen, both quickly seized on anything loose, putting several all too short deliveries into the tennis courts. Windsor’s bowlers had more success when the pitched the ball up, but couldn’t stop the pair running up 170 for the first wicket, until in a scene reminiscent of Fenner’s,  both batsman retired on 81 and 87 respectively.
There was brief respite for Windsor when Dean Bean’s left arm seam accounted for Elliot first ball, but J.Rance took over where his brother left off hitting 79 before also retiring. Some lower order hitting saw Chesham move past 300,and despite 2 wickets for Jamie Hall, Chesham finished on 334-9. Adam Allen Turner eventually using 8 bowlers.
With a mountain to climb, Austin Ambrose and Sam Jordan showed some intent, with some aggressive shots, and raised 48 for the first wicket, until Jordan was dismissed for 28. Jadyn Clark followed soon after, but Kris Baumgartner kept Ambrose company with some nice shots, getting Windsor to 106-2 before Baumgartner(17)  fell to the impressive spinner, Pip France, who then get rid off Vishal Nair and Kieran Lall soon after to leave Windsor reeling at 125-5. Wicketkeeper Rob Noble then joined Ambrose to try add some respectability to the score, but Ambrose finally fell for a very well played 63. Jamie Hall (16) and Rob Noble (24) chiselled out some lower order runs, and Michael Chambers hit some lusty blows to be dismissed for 19. The end came soon after with Bean bowled for 6, to leave Windsor 196 all out.
Despite the heavy loss, this was a good first work out for Windsor, against strong opponents.
