17 year old George Gould showed he was well up for this level as he top scored with 47
against Kew on the weekend.
WINDSOR 155
Gould 47
Defeated by
KEW 5/155
Windsor kicked of the TVL with a loss on the weekend to competition heavy weights Kew at Home Park.
Windsor sadly lost the toss and where sent in on a deck that did quite a bit due to overnight showers. Kew quick Kidron Thomas picked up 3 of the top 4 in quick time, meaning Windsor were on the back foot early on. Birch (30) looked in fine touch early on but it was left to Gould (47) and Nichols (38) to rebuild the innings as they got the score past 100 at drinks. The two needed to kick on after the break but Nichols was run out and Gould departed soon after, as the tail struggled to support not out batsmen Weston (10*) to lose 5/30 and lay stranded on 155.
Kew set about chasing the target calmly as Vandermerwe bowled an inspired spell of 18 overs straight for 2/46, into the wind! Sadly Windsor where always 50 runs too short as Nichols (1/28), Harris (1/22) and Mohindru (1/28) all chipped in before Kew reached the target in the 44th over.
Windsor certainly noticed the difference in standard, and hopefully will learn that any quarter given at this level will be taken by the much more astute opposition.
Windsor travel to Maidenhead & Bray next weekend, where a win wil be just the tonic to get them back into the groove.
