Windsor have that sparkle!!
Windsor 1’s Vs Marlow 1’s 11th June 2005
Windsor’s start to there campaign had not got off to the start they had wanted, in the 1st few games the bowling was good but the batting just had not clicked, in recent weeks the batting had been getting much better with good bowling performances on good wickets, but their whole game plan hadn’t really clicked, after a positive result against Marlow Park lots of hard work from the team when in during the week to getting ready for what Skipper Thompson knew would be a really tough game.
Unfortunately the game off to a poor start with some unacceptable behaviour and comments from Marlow’s fast bowler Thomas, unfortunately this inspired the Windsor team to really focus on the game, Windsor won the toss and Thompson had no hesitation in making use of a nice looking Windsor wicket, again Bird and Thompson opened taking the score to 30 without loss, until Thompson played a lazy shot hitting a half volley straight to square leg, Mirza came and went quickly bringing Young Gould to the crease, Bird and Gould batted superbly together, Thomas bowling extremely at them but they battled through, eventually Bird fell for his 79 this brought Granger to the crease who hit a quick 24 before being fooled by Thomas with a slower ball, T Smith soon departed bringing in the might of Watkins who failed to replicate his innings of last week, this brought Clarke in, again he showed good skills in rotating the strike with Mike Gould, the score board kept ticking along eventually Gould fell and Windsor kept nudging away ending up on 228 – 9, this was a very gettable score on a wicket that had played very well.
Skipper Thompson fired his troops up after tea knowing that a few early wickets and the key wicket of Paskins could mean 25 much needed points, what happened next was in Thompson’s opinion the best display of fast seam and swing bowling he seen for 3 years in this division, Granger and Griffiths were simply unplayable, the latter in a very Angus Fraser style bowling seam and swing at the perfect length and Granger bowling with real pace, they absolutely destroyed the Marlow batting line up rolling them for 64.
Windsor were obviously over the moon with this result, knowing what a good side Marlow are and to beat them this convincingly was a great effort. But Thompson being his normal Northern self knows that Windsor have to start again now, 1 win doesn’t make a season!
