Winning streak continues as Windsor turn heat on Caversham

Windsor remain unbeatean in Division 4b after turning in another commanding display against Caversham and Redingsanians 1st XI on a glorious afternoon at the Home Park. Windsor have had great success in chasing scores this season but the conditions made the decision by the team unanamous that batting first on a flat track in the burning sun was the was way to go. This all depended upon Chris Edge attempting to win his second toss in 10 games but he managed to make only 1 win in 10 as Caversham won and duly elected to bat.

It was going to be hard work in the heat and although Edge looked somewhat out of sorts the initial breakthough was made superbly by Alex Hill removing the off and middle stump of both openers to put Caversham on the back foot. Another hostile delivery caught a Maffey on the thumb and as the catch dropped short of Millman at slip quick thinking saw him comfortably run out as he strayed out of his crease. Banergee playing a shot a ball attempted to regroup with Kulkani but a double bowling change brought the golden arms of Hodgson and Millman into the attack and their medium pace swing was too much for Caversham to cope with as attempting to move the scores along their wickets fell steadily. After Banergee fell to Towse at Long off and Millman removed Russell the rest of the Caversham attack were knocked over cheaply to end up all out on 121, which had Windsor taken a few regulation chances that they managed to unusually spill, the score could have been 40 or 30 runs less. Rob Hodgson was again the pick of the bowlers returning 31-4.

Windsor’s openers Paul Huggins and Rob Noble were instructed to take the scoring easy with wickets intact being more important in the first ten overs. After 2 overs when Windsor were 17-1 this didn’t seem to be the case as despite Huggins departure Windsor got after the runs with gusto scoring at 6.7 an over for the first 10 overs. After Rob Noble fell for 20, Andy Towse playing some commanding drives was joined by Nigel Wing and both remained unbeaten as the target was passed in just 19.1 overs. The early finish brought a plus point for both sides however in that they were in the bar early enough to see Abdul Ashraful put the Australians to the sword in an historic ODI win!
